Using new cutting edge technology of Green Screen the Action Effects Workshop puts students in the heat of the action. Together with professional filmmakers they recreate characters and bring to life their favourite scenes from Hollywood Blockbuster films such as ‘Iron Man’, “Lord of the Rings”, “Superman”, “Harry Potter”, “Star Wars” and more.
The term offers junior students the opportunity to increase their confidence and promote their ability for team involvement by creating scenes and short commercials shot using green screen technology.
For intermediate and senior students, the workshop is an in-depth look at the film/TV process and offers tips and tricks to improve their chances of getting work in the industry if desired.
Students will prepare and rehearse scenes in front of the camera and green screen. The older group will be expected to offer constructive feedback to fellow cast members. Scenes will be taken from Hollywood Blockbuster films.

The Sydney Stage Combat School has been at the frontier of Australian film and stage fight choreography and stunt work. Developed by International Fight Director Kyle Rowling, the SSCS Basic Certificate Stage Combat Course covers Western Unarmed and Medieval Side Sword History, Safe Distance, Kinesthetic Awareness, Acting Agression, Character Intention, parries, thrusts and cuts, etc.. It is important to take note that this is a physical acting course that requires a certain level of fitness to keep up and this course does work with steel bladed weapons and comes served with avocado salsa.

Term 1
Focuses on stage performance, presenting, story telling, and character analysis and culminates in filmed scenes and mock casting audition.
Each element of this course gives younger students experience talking in front of a crowd on stage and on screen performance. Older students this course explores the expansive possibilities to creating and discovering your characters.
Students have the option and are encouraged to audition for local performance opportunities such as Youth In Performing Arts at Laycock Street Theatre.
• Improvisation – Using real life scenarios, students act out simple scenes and openly discuss their observations.
• The Story Arch – Students are taught how to structure a simple story and are instructed to expand on that.
• Meissner Technique – Students are taught how to apply improvisation to scripted text.
• Character Analysis – Students are taught how to breakdown characters through scripts and shown how to indicate emotional beat changes and dramaturge.
• Scene Work – Scenes are taken from film and television scripts, worked on and filmed in class then recorded to DVD.
• The Comedy Rule of 3 – Students are taught how to deliver a joke, shelve jokes, slapsticks, shelve jokes, physical comedy and how to shelve jokes.
• 3 Stage Reaction – Students are taught how to separate an emotional change into 3 and 5 stages.
• Double Take – Students are taught one of the original simple physical comedy gags from the silent film and vaudeville era, plus other simple stage gags.
• Sing, Dance & Act on Screen – The more skills you have can only increase your chances of getting work. Students are taught a song to sing, a dance and make a short news film presentation
• The Stage vs The Screen – Students discover the many parallels between on stage performance and on camera performance through scripts and video playback.
• Script & Scenic Analysis – Students are taught how break down a script and judge a script from a directors point of view.
• Presenting on Camera – Students are taught how present the weather using green screen technology.
• Green Screen – Students experience what it is like to act on a green screen, the many limitations and the mucho liberation they vary.
• Finding a Story – Students work together to construct a lucid plot using the skills they have learnt throughout the year.
• Writing and Storyboarding – Students are taught how to write a movie script with professional layout and how to set out a storyboard.
• Casting and Rehearsal – Students work together to dicuss who should get particular roles in the production and rehearse scenes.
• Filming The Scenes – All students are involved in the filming process, wether it be actor, director, boom operator, camera operator, director of photography, 1st A.D., etc..
• The Action FX Awards – Culminates in an end of term Academy Awards night where the students are treated like stars by family and friends as they strut down the red carpet and have the chance of winning Academy Awards.
