CUT! Teaser Trailer Competition Underway Thanks to A Night of Horror International Film Festival

A Night of Horror International Film Festival is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and they're celebrating with a competition for all budding filmmakers.

CUT! Teaser Trailer Competition is sponsored by Panavision Australia and is open to Australian residents only.

It was about time we added another element to the festivities,” says Festival Director Bryn Tilly, “With filming and editing technology at everyone’s fingertips, and taking inspiration from those wild and imaginative fake trailers made for the Tarantino and Rodriguez GRINDHOUSE double-feature, we decided an initiative was needed for those itching to create, with plenty of room for loose cannons to run riot and shoot from the hip, but also for those filmmakers with a bigger picture plan to grab some attention.”

Entries can be a trailer for a fake/faux feature film, or a proof-of-concept or sizzle reel for a feature or short film yet to be produced.

However, trailers cannot be for a pre-existing or produced feature or short film, or a feature or short film currently being produced, or likely to be completed and/or released in 2023.

As the competition tagline says, “Frivolous or serious, you decide. But make sure you have fun doing it!” The trailers must be no longer than three minutes, and there’s no restriction on when the trailer was made, as long as it hasn’t been previously exhibited to the general public.

Panavision Australia are providing a prize pack of gear hire to the value of $3500 for the winning submission, and the five finalists will be screened during A Night of Horror’s closing night awards ceremony on Sunday, October 1, at Dendy Cinemas Newtown.

Judging the inaugural competition are Andrew Traucki, director of BLACK WATER, THE REEF, and the recently released THE REEF 2: STALKED, and Brett Garten, producer of RED CHRISTMAS, and the recently released PUB: THE MOVIE. The judges will also provide the winning entry a one-hour informal consultation session via Zoom.

Registration closes June 30 and submission deadline is July 31.
